Ash Wednesday

In the Bible, ashes represent repentence (Jer 6:26), sorrow for sin (Job 42:3-6), pain (2 Sam 13:19), but also mortality (Gen 3:19). Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent where we reflect upon our sinfulness, practice repentence and self denial, devote ourselves to intense prayer and focus our hearts and minds on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins. On this special service, we are reminded of our frailness and sinfulness, but also pointed towards the redemption found in Christ.

On this day we fast and set our souls to engage in the observance of Lent to the honor and glory of Christ and for the benefit of his people.
